How to access the various courses?

The ISP offers, in addition to the Pre-kindergarten (from 18 months), an educational path from 3 to 18 years old, structured according to the accredited International Baccalaureate Organization and its programme is divided as follows:

  • PYP (Primary Years Programme) corresponding to the italian pre-school and primary school from 3 to 11 years old;
  • MYP (Middle Years Programme) divided in two levels: the first one corresponding to the italian middle school, from 11 to 14 years old; and the second one, from 14 to 16 years old, corresponding to the first two years of the italian high school;
  • DP (Diploma Programme) the final two-year period of high school from 16 to 18 years old, accredited by the IB International Baccalaureate Organization (International Baccalaureate Organization, ibo.org), recognized in Italy (law 738/1986).

School admissions follow the Italian schools’ enrollment calendar. Normally, new students are enrolled and placed in the corresponding age class considering the period January – December of each calendar year and excluding the period between January and April of the following year, which is taken into consideration by Italian school. However, some exceptions for these cases can be made after a short period of observation in the classroom and tests done by the teachers and coordinators.

For preschool (Pre-kindergarten, Kindergarten and Transition) it is advisable to formalise the enrollment the previous spring before the start of the next school year. There is no test of the children’s english level at this time of the enrollment. Due to the natural adaptation of the children, our pupils are able to integrate into our context without any problem. In any case they are supported by our bilingual assistants.

In our Primary School, if the family wants to proceed with the enrollment, a course of reinforcement of english language (EAL) is activated at the beginning of the school year after having taken an english test to evaluate the level and schedule a timetable with an EAL specialist. If necessary, language support will be provided until the student has reached a successful language level. Enrollment and placement can be both at the beginning or during the school years in grade 2, 3, 4, 5 or 6.

In our Middle School, if the family wants to proceed with the enrollment a documentation from the school previously attended is requested, accompanied by a possible interview with the student and, if necessary, an english and math entry test. In addition, an english reinforcement program (EAL) is activated at the beginning of the school year. The student will take a further test to evaluate the level and to schedule the timetable with the EAL specialist. If necessary, the language support might be compulsory until the student has reached a successful english level such as to follow the lessons with advancement. Enrollment and placement can be both at the beginning of the first middle school year or during M2, M3, M4 or M5 courses.

In our Diploma programme, if the family wants to proceed with the enrollment and the student comes from an italian school, the pupil must have completed the third year of high school. In addition, the previous school documentation is required accompanied by an interview with the student and an english and maths entry test. During the course the student is guided in the choice of the subjects by the Director, the Principal and the Coordinators. The enrollment and placement to the Diploma Programme can be only at the beginning of the course (DP1).
